Cava de' Tirreni, the Small Italian Switzerland

One of the most famous and ancient names of Cava is Little Switzerland, which originates from the writings of the late '700.
This nickname is due to the conformation of its landscape, which is very similar to that of the real Switzerland: enclosed in a rich in nature large valley and surrounded by mountains, the city is reminiscent of the typical villages in Switzerland.

Badia - Corpo di Cava

The ancient seat of the magistrates of the territory, "Corpo di Cava" retains considerable remains of the fortification walls of the XIII Century. The story of the monumental complex of the Abbey of Cava de' Tirreni began in the year 1000, when a group of monks gathered around the hermit Alferio, a noble man from Salerno.

The Historic centre - BORGO SCACCIAVENTI

In the XIV and XV Century, Borgo Scacciaventi developed. Still today, it is a fine example of an outdoor shopping centre, featuring a street with arcades and historic buildings with porticoes.

Città Regia

In the XII Century, the city was named a "Città Regia" ("Royal City"), a prestigious title that contributed to the development of local institutions and the growth of a vibrant social group that still today preserves with pride its culture and its origins.
