The historic center of Cava de' Tirreni, known today as Borgo Scacciaventiis rooted in a very ancient history, dating back to the XI Century.
The growing fame of the Benedictine Abbey attracted inhabitants from the surrounding areas, leading to the creation of a fortified village, known as the "Corpo di Cava",which remained under the authority of the Abbey. Over time, however, the Abbey was forced to relinquish its feudal rights, and economic and administrative activities shifted to the valley, giving rise to the Town of Cava. Along its streets, numerous craft shops were established, sheltered by arcades designed to protect goods from the weather.
Cava continued to flourish, attracting new businesses and developing a thriving craftsmanship.
Over time, the village came to be known as Borgo Scacciaventiin honor of one of the first families to settle there. Between the 15th and 16th centuries, the town's craftsmanship reached its peak, becoming renowned throughout the territories of Naples and Salerno for fabric weaving and dyeing, as well as the production of wool and silk.
In the XVI Century, thanks to its strategic position, the Borgo Scacciaventi became a crossroads of trade. Thanks to he presence of its Potici, the village emerged as a major centre of trade and economic developmen in Southern Italy, making its own history unforgettable.
