Pregiato is one of the oldest villages in the town, alongside Annunziata, with roots tracing back to the Lombard era. The name may derive from 'praediatus,' meaning 'rich,' or from 'praesidia,' referring to the fortresses along the Via Maggiore that connected the area to Salerno.
The Church of St. Nicholas from Bari, once known simply as St. Nicholas, has very ancient origins, although the exact date of its construction remains uncertain.
The bell tower of St. Nicholas was designed in 1564 by Fabio de Baldo and his brothers, under the supervision of Pignoloso Cafaro. It is an imposing structure with six tiers, crowned by an octagonal spire, with a cusp at the top.
The bell tower is not only an architectural marvel, but a tangible sign of the history and of the timeless beauty of this ancient village.
