The Church of Sant'Alfonso Maria Liguori is dedicated to the namesake saint, born on September 27, 1696, in Marianella, near Naples. After studying music, science, and law, he initially pursued a legal career but soon devoted himself to the life of the church, being ordained a priest in 1726. In 1732, he founded the Congregation of the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Redeemer, with the goal of redeeming souls. He served as bishop of St. Agatha of the Goths from 1762 to 1775, responding generously to the needs of the population.
The parish complex of Sant'Alfonso is an example of contemporary architecture, located in a developing area near the historic center of the city. The church, which serves as the focal point, is situated in an urban context that is still taking shape. The sacred building has a square plan, with the presbytery and the general congregation area in direct communication. The presbytery is on a mezzanine level, with straight walls and zenithal lighting. The walls of the building are white, decorated with structural elements and rectangular windows. The facade is simple and modest, preceded by a portico that connects the building to the churchyard.
