Church of St. Mary in Quadruviale

The Church of Santa Maria del Quadriviale was founded, according to some historical sources, in 1283 in the hamlet of S. Peter, although there are no documents confirming this date with certainty. During the reign of Charles I of Anjou, the church was under the jurisdiction of Abbot Leo II of the Abbey of the Santissima Trinità di Cava. From its inception, it is believed that the church was equipped with spaces designed to accommodate pilgrims and the sick, serving as both a refuge and a hospital. The confraternity of the same name, responsible for assisting pilgrims and the sick, was established in 1383 under the original name of the 'Congregation of the Room,' separate from the confraternity of the Holy Spirit, which had its headquarters in Santa Maria del Toro. Some studies, however, suggest that the church itself was founded in 1383.
