The monumental complex of Sant'Arcangelo is located in the center of the village of the same name, situated on the hills southwest of the city, in an area that blends rural and urban characteristics, with a distinctive geography. The complex includes the church with its bell tower, the atrium, the sacristy, and various other spaces, such as the former Confraternity of Santa Maria della Pietà, the Oratorio di Santo Stefano, a chapel, an underground area, and the former hospice, which has now been converted into residences.
After the 1980 earthquake, the church suffered significant damage. During the restoration in 1991, a fire caused further destruction, notably to the Chapel of Santa Maria della Pietà. The restoration was completed in 1994, allowing the church to reopen for worship. However, the chapel remained closed and has yet to be restored.
