The Disfida dei Trombonieri di Cava de' Tirreni is a historic folkloric event.
According to tradition, the people of Cava showed incredible loyalty to the Aragonese and valor during the assault by the Angioini, attacking the enemy camp that had set up in the city at night. King Ferrante of Aragon , in recognition of this heroic act, granted the city the "privilege in white," "Pergamena Bianca",, an honor that is still represents a symbol of loyalty and pride today.
Every year, the eight historical districts of the city- Sant'Anna,, Sant'Anna all'Oliveto, Monte Castello, Borgo Scacciaventi, Croce, SS. Sacramento, Filangieri, Santa Maria del Rovo and Senatorecompete in a contest with pistons, ancient firearms with long barrels. The event is enriched with historical parades and spectacular and spectacular flag-waving performances with the so-called "Sbandieratori", culminating in a shooting competition that highlights the participants' expertise.
